If you were or think that you were raped there are many steps that you need to take. The first thing that you need to do isget to a safe place. Then, tell a trusted adult and get to a doctor. Your guardian can help you get to a doctor if you wish. You want to get medical help immediately (before you take a shower or change your clothes), so the health provider can make sure that you are ok medically. They will see if you have a STD, check and see if you are pregnant and also do a exam to see if you were hurt by this person. The medical staff will also do a “rape kit” to see if they are able to get any evidence off of you that will be able to prove that someone hurt you. They will likely take the clothes you were wearing as “evidence.”
You should also call the police and make a report. The doctor’s staff can help you do this if you wish. The police will want to know if you know the person that raped you and if not, they will try to find out who attacked you. Lastly, it is best to talk to a professional to help you deal with the emotional aspects of such a situation. It is hard to sift through something like this on your own so make sure that you talk to someone to help manage your emotions.
