    Despite what some may tell you on the subject, there is no strict amount or range when it comes to how often one should have bowel movements. A high or low amount of bowel movements for one person, doesn’t mean anything by itself regarding the health of that individual. An individual could have two bowel movements each day, while another could have only a few a week and both could be perfectly healthy.

    The only time to worry about the frequency of your bowel movements is when you begin to feel uncomfortable during them (ie: straining), or notice a change in their appearance or smell (such as a stool with blood).

    If you’re having any changes as described above, then it is a good idea to alert a trusted adult and your health care provider.
