Determining how much water a person needs doesn’t have a simple and standard answer. There are many variables that come into play. First off, your physical activity level has a lot to do with hydration demands. If you are active, you are sweating, and you will need to drink more than the average person to replace the water that you are losing. Another factor that is often overlooked is the weather. Hot days cause people to sweat out a good deal of water. On such days, all people need more water. Gender, weight, illness, pregnancy/breastfeeding are other big factors that affect your water intake. So, there is no simple answer to the question, but on average, men need about 3L of water (~13 cups) every day and women need about 2.2L (~ 9 cups) per day. Again, this varies based on the aforementioned factors, but this is a good guide to go by. Don’t underestimate the importance of staying hydrated. It will make a big difference in your daily performance.
